The Green Project
A nonprofit organization that began as a volunteer paint recycling program after it became apparent that New Orleans needed a responsible alternative to dumping paint and polluting regional waterways.

With equity in mind, The Green Project sought to recycle usable paint and resell it back into the community at an affordable price. In time, this idea expanded to building materials and our salvage store was born.
Today, The Green Project is a donation-based salvage store, paint recycling center, and environmental education hub located in the St. Roch neighborhood. They work to divert waste from landfills each day, helping lower the amount of fossil fuels needed to create new products and demonstrating that reclaimed goods have value.

The Green Project offers free K-12 environmental education lessons and hands-on community workshops extend the mission beyond warehouse walls. They teach residents about resources, waste, and how to take the materials that already exist in our historic city and reuse them in new, creative ways.

The Green Project strives to build a sustainable New Orleans—environmentally and economically.

Salvations
Gala + Auction

Salvations Gala + Auction is the Green Project’s annual fundraising event. After a 3-year hiatus, the gala returns this November to City Park’s Arbor Room at Popp Fountain.

A gala and auction, Salvations serves to uplift a culture of creative reuse, demonstrating to our community that reclaimed materials have extraordinary value. Hosted by The Green Project, a New Orleans-based environmental nonprofit, at the beautiful City Park Arbor Room at Popp Fountain, the evening event includes a locally crafted dinner, open bar and live music.

Anchoring the event is a Salvage Design Competition that calls upon local designers in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast to create furniture, lighting and functional art wholly out of salvage materials. Juried by a team of professional designers, architects, artists and sustainability experts, the competition challenges both the designers and event patrons to discover that one’s trash can turn into another’s treasure.

Each piece is judged on craftsmanship, creativity in the use of salvage materials, functionality and overall aesthetic. Six top prizes are awarded, including Best in Show, and all pieces are auctioned in support of
The Green Project.

ASID Foundation

The ASID Foundation is working to build a stronger, highly-educated, and socially-conscious design community. The Foundation is dedicated to providing the resources and tools necessary to grow the interior design profession through scholarships, research, and education with the support and donations of members and other industry professionals.

The ASID Foundation supports innovative research and education that articulates knowledge and collective intelligences about how interior design impacts behavior.  The Foundation actively provides funding to unique initiatives that contribute to its mission and supports the industry that is motivated to build a better world for all.

The South Central Chapter supports the ASID Foundation throughout the year by donating a portion of our ticket sales from our Signature Events and Design Summit.  You may also add an additional donation amount while registering for each of these events.

In addition to supporting the Foundation through our ticket sales, we hold a Raffle annually, with proceeds being donated to the Foundation. During FY2018, we raffled off a piece of artwork that was live painted during one of our events!
